This post is all about the best baby lotion for dry skin to stop your baby from scratching their skin every moment of every day!
If your baby has sensitive skin, you want to put the best baby lotion for dry skin on them that works the BEST for your baby’s skin.
As a mama, it is so hard to watch your baby have dry skin and scratch it over and over. You want to take the itchiness away and find other ways than constantly adding chemicals to your baby’s body to help with their dry skin.
Using the BEST of the BEST baby lotion can get pricey real quick because your baby may have an allergy or eczema that increases dryness or breakouts on their skin. Think of it more as an investment for your little one that will always be a part of their life.
There are so many lotions on the market, but not all of them are right for your baby with dry or sensitive skin.
My daughter Kyla has extremely dry and sensitive skin. I started searching for the best baby lotion for dry skin since she was a newborn! Buying expensive lotion for her skin has become a part of our budget. I have seen how much she scratches her skin at night until she draws blood, and it would not be fair to her if we did not take care of her dry skin.
When she was a newborn, we used Johnson’s baby lotion and body wash because it was the cheapest lotion we could find, and we wanted to save in every way possible. But after trying a few different lotions, we have found three that we love and that works great for her dry skin.
Because eczema was new to me, as I am sure it is for you, I wanted to share the best baby lotion for dry skin to help your baby with their skin!!

There are a few ways you can help your baby if they have eczema or dry skin. You will want to make sure you are using products without harsh chemicals. Items to avoid with chemicals include detergent, body wash, and baby lotion. Additionally, you might even find that fragrance-free lotion is better for their dry skin.
I have been through A LOT of lotion since my baby girl was little to see what helps best with her eczema because she has dry patches all over her body.
If your baby has dry skin or eczema, you will want to wash their body daily and apply lotion in the morning and the evening. You can find my five simple steps for a baby bath routine in this post.
I suggest starting a bath routine now that includes applying lotion right after their bath. We bathe Kyla every evening and apply lotion to her skin right after. This has been our routine since she was a newborn, and her dry patches appeared.

While you are using one of these best baby lotions for dry skin, make sure you do these four things:
- Do not dry the water off of your baby’s body. Leave the water on their skin when it is wet so that you can keep the moisture within their dry skin.
- Mix Aquaphor with their lotion and apply it to their wet skin so that it can capture moisture.
- Use one of the best baby lotions for dry skin on your baby’s body twice a day. I always apply the lotion on her skin every night after bath and every morning to prevent your baby’s skin from becoming dry and then itchy.
There are a few lotions on the market that are best for babies with sensitive skin. We have used 2 out of the 3, but I am still eager to try Tubby Todd because another mama whose baby had very dry skin like my daughter Kyla used it and loved it.
Best Baby Lotion Brands
These lotions are made for babies with sensitive skin. I have used 2 out of the 3 lotions on my daughter Kyla, and we are currently trying Babo Botanicals.
Using lotions that are free of fragrances is helpful depending on what your baby’s skin can handle based on their dry and or sensitive skin.
Honest Co.
Jessica Alba created Honest brand when washing one of her baby’s clothes and broke out. You can use her honest duo that comes with body wash and lotion. The honest lotion is made without dyes, parabens, phthalates, and synthetic fragrances. It is not a thick consistency and applies so smooth to baby’s skin. Some of the main ingredients that soothe dry skin are shea butter and jojoba oil.
I have used the sweet almond gently nourishing lotion and body wash on my daughter within her first few months of being born. Honest lotion has made Kyla’s skin feel super soft and has decreased her constant need to scratch her skin. I still use the body wash on her, but have recently started using Babo Botanicals this last week.
On days where it was hard to be consistent with applying her lotion twice a day, it did keep her skin hydrated for just about 24 hours!
Babo Botanicals
Babo Botanicals is a fragrance-free lotion that is hypoallergenic and was created to soothe dry skin and eczema. It has a bit thicker consistency in comparison to the Honest lotion.
This brand caught my eye because it specifically says, “sensitive or eczema-prone skin,” which is why I decided to try this brand.
Babo Botanicals also uses 2% colloidal oat, which helps relieve dry skin and promotes extremely dry skin (which Kyla has) by using pure flower and plant extracts. This lotion is also different in that it is mineral oil-free, vegan steroid-free, gluten, soy, and dairy-free. I love that it is nongreasy and hypoallergenic for baby’s skin and tested by a dermatologist, of course!
We may transfer back to honest lotion, but for right now I like to use Babo Botanicals lotion and Honest body wash.
Tubby Todd Bath Co.
Tubby Todd is a brand that has caught my eye for years but is the most expensive brand I have seen on the market, with lots of mamas that rave about it!! They have so many reviews of mama’s sharing their story about how much they love it! Tubby Todd gives 10% off with your first purchase if you try their skincare.
They have an all-over ointment for baby, made from plant-based ingredients for all skin types, including eczema-prone or sensitive skin types for newborns or anyone of all ages. Their products are gluten-free, dairy-free, animal cruelty-free similar to Babo Botanicals!
Tubby Todd creates a thick and creamy lotion that can come in travel sizes too!
At some point, we will try Tubby Todd, but Babo Botanicals works great for dry skin and I have not seen Kyla scratch one time in over 24 hours. Using the best baby lotion for dry skin will decrease the amount of scratching your baby does. Any one of these lotions will work great for your baby. However, what you choose will depend on the consistency you are looking for, how much you are willing to invest in your baby’s skin, and how your baby reacts to each lotion.
I hope you try and love these lotions for dry/ sensitive skin as much as we do!! And that your baby’s skin will clear up in dryness and the scratching subsides. 🙂
