If you have a little one on-the-go, then you are like all of us moms! We want to lock everything up and keep our doors shut. Your little one is probably learning to crawl, or you have a curious toddler. In this phase, they want to explore EVERYTHING!
When Kyla started crawling, I had major anxiety! I started playing out the millions of bad things that could happen in my head. I had no idea what baby-proofing products to look for, I just knew that I wanted her safe. Doesn’t every mom want that though?
If your little one is almost 6 months, then get ready for them to get super busy and start crawling. Before you know it, they are walking, climbing, and jumping. Trying to find all of the ways possible to get your stomach in knots. When your little one grows into this new phase. You will want to know all of the baby-proofing products that you need to buy.
Lucky for you, I went to target and created a shopping list of baby-proofing products for you! This has reduced my stress and anxiety and will reduce yours too!
As a mom, we are one, two, three, or more babies, and let’s admit, they are totally busy. It can be hard to keep up with their every move, but we try. The ultimate goal is to have the baby’s safety first.
Here is a list of baby proofing products that you’ll need to keep your busy little one safe.
Baby Proofing Products For Your Home
1. Plug Protectors
Have you had those moments when your little one puts their hand in their mouth? Then soon after decides that they want to put their finger in the wall plugs? This terrifies me! We decided that we would get these as our first choice when Kyla just started to crawl.
If your little one has not started crawling yet, get ready! Kyla always hated tummy time and decided she would crawl at 9 and a half months. Soon after that, she started pulling herself up, crawling quicker, and balancing! All within weeks of each other.
These wall plug-ins are great for protecting your busy baby from playing with electro sockets and can help prevent electrocution. *Note: you will need this even as your baby grows into a toddler. Toddlers become curious and try to stick their little fingers into “no-no” places!
2. Cabinet Slide Locks
Your little explorer is or will soon be searching for allllll of the fun things that you constantly say “NO” to! This is because they are in the curiosity phase, which is a sign of baby learning.
Instead of constantly closing cabinets or frustratingly saying NO, let the cabinet closers help you out!! These cabinet slide locks are the best because they hook onto the knobs and handles. When you want to get into your kitchen cabinets, these are easy to slide off and adjust back on.
3. Soft Corner Guards
Are you constantly nervous about the sharp corners on your bed, nightstand, table, or tv stand? I think every mom gets that pit in their stomach as their baby gets close to the corner. Especially when you’ve turned around for one second and the baby is close to hitting the corner.
These soft corner guards can go at the edges of your bed, on your tv stand, nightstand, and on the tables. These stoppers have a cushion to protect your baby’s developing brain and to protect your little one from a huge gash! If the baby bumps their head, they will at least hit their head on something soft and protective.
4. Toilet Lock
The most aggravating thing when you are getting ready in the bathroom, doing your hair, makeup, or brushing your teeth is when the baby opens up the toilet lid. But it’s also stressful because if they lift it and no one is watching in that split second, they could hurt their little fingers so bad or even drown. Super terrifying right?
With the toilet lock, this can all be avoided so that mama can get ready easily while baby plays in the bathroom and their little hands are also protected. Wheew!
5. Outsmart Corner Strap
One of our favorite purchases is this outsmart corner strap. Our tv stand in the living room has DVDs and some other items that we like to keep safe, but Kyla kept opening up the door.
I honestly had no idea that these existed but I am obsessed!! The corner straps are still our favorite find! Kyla thinks that she needs to press the button, but it is a trick. It can only unlock the strap if you push down on the sides and squeeze 🙂
6. Custom Fit All-Purpose Straps
These custom-fit all-purpose straps can go anywhere with a durable strap that stretches. The all-purpose straps can go on cabinet doors that you want to keep closed and anywhere else that you find convenient in your home.
To release the strap though, this one actually shows the buttons on the sides to press in comparison to the outsmart corner straps. This strap is best on pantry cabinets, the microwave, the fridge, or cabinets in the garage.
7. Stove Knob Covers
If you have a stove and your toddler continues to grab the knobs, and it makes you nervous, then these knob covers are a way to keep things from being tampered with. They hook on to it from under the knob, and the cover goes on top.
It is heat resistant, so it does not melt when it is placed on your stove. OMG! This makes it super easy to open up the cover for the stove. It has a hinged lid so that you quickly access the knob. All you do is open and close the top (cover) as needed. Your toddler will be safe from stove hazards.
8. Parent Grip Door Knob Covers
If your toddler is tall enough to reach a door that you are worried about them opening, then you’ll want these parent grip door knob covers. This makes it so that only the parent can open the door by outsmarting the baby.
You’ll have to touch the openings on the knob and turn the knob to open the door. Baby won’t be able to figure this out because they will continue turning the knob. This is the entire goal of having a parent grip doorknob cover. I would make sure your doorknob is round to fit this cover.
9. Gate
Okay, if you are tired of saying the word NO! Or even tired of constantly pulling your baby away from a space. That they will NEVER be allowed in without your constant supervision…The answer is a GATE!
There are so many fears we have as moms. A few fears of mine are thinking about my little one falling downstairs, which can cause severe brain injury or opening the oven while a dish is baking.
This is why a gate is such an investment for your busy little one. Let’s be honest, we aren’t perfect moms. We need help, or those babies who are BUSY could get into dangerous activities!
I love this gate so much because it is the gate between our living room and our kitchen. While I am washing dishes or cleaning the kitchen, I can see Kyla watching TV and everything she is doing on the other side of the closed gate.
The separation is so nice because I have to let her into the kitchen. It is not easy for her to swing the gate wide open or push it down. I also like that she cannot touch the oven when it is on or pick up food on the floor if I have not cleaned it that day.
There are so many options for gates, but this gate is our favorite because it is classy looking. All you have to do when setting it up is twist the sides until it fits your wall space. This gate is very secured and will fit great between wall spaces and expands to your desired length.
There is nothing more terrifying or aggravating than constantly worrying about what your little one is getting into. You may also be feeling like a mean mama for always saying no-no-no! Even though, all you want to do is protect your babies and keep them safe. The truth is that without these products, we moms go CRAZY!
Other Safety Tips for Your Home
Just as a side note. We are not perfect but have made it a goal to keep all of the doors shut in our home. This thought was discussed and pre-planned in our minds. We are usually good about it. If Kyla gets in the room then we know that she is still safe with all of these baby-proofing products.
We like to keep our bedroom door closed, office door closed, and bathroom doors closed. Luckily the gate does its job for the kitchen.
I hope these baby-proofing products make you feel at ease and give you a new insight! On how you can use these products in different ways! After all, baby safety is the ultimate goal 😉
